It’s Easy Being Green With Stewart + Brown

Watch this very interesting video interview with Karen Stewart and Howard Brown, of the sustainable clothing brand, Stewart + Brown. It’s a segment of the show “It’s Easy Being Green” hosted by the well-known green activist Renee Loux. It is sweet that their inspiration for their company came from the birth of their daughter, Hazel…

Stewart & Brown Merino Bubble Sleeve Cardigan

In 2002 Karen Stewart and Howard Brown, partners in life and work, realized their destiny; They gave birth to a baby girl named Hazel Stewart Brown and a baby brand named Stewart+Brown.

Design for Karen and Howard is a passion and a way of life. Their professional journey stems from a union of creativity and purpose. Karen, a trained painter and New York native, and Howard, a graphic artist and Montana native, oversee every aspect of the product and brand themselves. Each Stewart+Brown collection, at an elemental level, is a fusion of experiences and insights filtered through their creative core and rendered into their own unique and personal aesthetic. While finding inspiration in all aspects of life, their collaborations are primarily influenced by art, design, culture, travel, and nature.

Del Forte Denim : Eco-Luxury Feels Good!

Del Forte Calla Jeans

Del Forte Denim is designed for the eco-chic woman who is transforming the face of fashion. Made in the USA with 100 percent organic cotton, Del Forte’s premium denim apparel is part of a growing trend which interprets luxury as a combination of distinctive design and ethical production.

The garments are sewn and finished in Los Angeles, a fashion-forward city that is a leader in anti-sweatshop legislation and enforcement, as well as being home to the most cutting-edge wash development facilities in the country.” from Del Forte Denim

Fitness Travel Gear and their sister blog Fancy Green have excellent reviews of organic and sustainable fashions made of cotton, denim, silk, bamboo, soy …

Here’s an excerpt of a review of Del Forte’s Calla Jeans from Fitness Travel Gear:

A good pair of jeans speaks for itself. Unfortunately, too many jeans try too hard, relying on fluffy adornments or bizarre styling to catch your attention. But we know better; it’s not about the bling, it’s about the fit. And the fabric.

Del Forte’s Calla jeans are confident, simple, and straight-forward. They actually remind me of my favorite pair of Levis, and preserve many of the “original” jean’s design elements such as pocket rivets and a clean, straight-leg cut. The Calla has left a few subtle marks on this blueprint, contrast stitching on the pocket and two small embroidered logos (one on the waistband, top right, of course) and one on the inside panel of the zippered fly.

I knew the minute I pulled my Calla jeans out of the box that these were no ordinary jeans, despite their low-key appearance. The organic denim is soft like velvet. They actually feel creamy to the touch, especially after washing. I love the low-rise cut, but since not everybody does, Del Forte makes these jeans in a medium-rise, too, which is plenty modest for anyone. I also love the long, straight/skinny tapered leg, and the slightly stretchy fit. The longer I wear them, they give more and fit like a glove. I never thought I’d give up my baggy jeans–I’ll still keep them for working around the house –but I’m a pretty serious convert at this point. I’m never going back to wearing men’s jeans..”

The Ecosexual is getting sexier!

What’s an Eco-sexual?

Let’s use it in a sentence:

“I would love to date an ecosexual person so we can bike to the farmers market together.”

Defined by the Urban Dictionary, an Eco-sexual is:

A term describing a person, in a dating sense, who is social and environmentally conscious. Similar to metrosexual, but for someone who wears and buys organic items and drives a hybrid car.

Treehugger mentions a survey that indicates that women like men who care about the environment

“UK men’s magazine, by the grand name of Nuts (warning: do not click this link in an open plan office) has apparently surveyed 1,500 women online to discover that the top ‘turn on’ women find attractive in men is ‘caring about the environment’. The magazines relation expert figures that women equate eco awareness with a man who isn’t selfish. ‘There’s something sexy about a man who recycles, it shows that he cares about more than just himself and shows he has a sensitive side and thinks about the future,’ she says.”

EcoGeek has a great article about how Eco-Geeks get all the girls….

3rd Whale provides a Green Dating Service

Treehugger also has a very practical article about how to green your sex life….

which includes:

#7. Eco-undies

Slinky, slippery, sexy. These are all good things when it comes to some sassy skivvies for the bedroom. Organic cotton, hemp silk, bamboo, and other renewable fibers make ultra-sexy lingerie and underwear. When browsing around, go for quality, not novelty. Buying a bedroom outfit that will be used only a couple times isn’t a great buy. Face it, unless you’re famous, nobody on Ebay is gonna buy those crotchless panties, even if you just wore them once. We suggest shelling out the extra bucks for something classy, sexy, and sustainable that can be donned when the mood is right for years to come. For something on the exotic end, check out Enamore and g=9.8. For sensible and simple, look at Buenostyle and American Apparel.

Natural Fabrics, Natural Style

Monday Magazine, a weekly from Victoria BC Canada, celebrated Earth Week with the headline “Green Chic – Natural fabrics, natural style“, and an article about sustainable fashion. Not Just Pretty is featured prominently in this week’s issue – on the cover, the lovely Moe Bell is wearing a beautiful green Myco Anna Cami Agave top. Her bag is a Red Flag Sail bag – made of recycled sails!

Here’s an excerpt from the article
“Is Green My Colour?”:

Green is the most important fashion statement of 2008—and not on a colour wheel. From manufacturing practices to fibre sources, components of the apparel industry are spurring the next major shift in the market for an organic—or, at least, more carbon-neutral—lifestyle. New fabric choices, like bamboo and soy, are allowing apparel to become eco-friendly, while remaining stylish and modern

Ecoskin Copper dress featured in D~luxeList

The D~luxeList, a “chic guide to beautiful things”, have featured this chic and beautiful Eco-skin Copper dress in their fashion finds…

It’s so great to see eco-friendly fashions going beyond great basics by offering super-stylish dresses and tops that are every bit as fashionable as your favorite contemporary lines. The Copper is a super-soft fabrication comprised of 67% Bamboo, 28% Tencel, and 5% Spandex. The banded hem, soft gathers at the neckline and elbow-length sleeves are cute details that take this piece from basic to beautiful.

Understated, sensual and feminine in its approach, Ecoskin is inspired by the Italian Riviera and the women who live and play there. Her confidence is apparent to everyone around her. There is a freshness to the ease of this collection. Nothing is overwhelming or overdone. Always with the purity of nature in mind, colors are clean and rich in their approach.

“I wanted to give women a hip, sophisticated collection, as well as a sustainable product that would not leave a footprint on the environment,” says designer, Sandy Skinner. “My vision is to continually raise women’s awareness of their options. We can combine eco-friendly fabrics with a high design aesthetic and collectively we can take steps toward creating an environment where humans, nature and animals live in harmony.”

Nature Will Hate You For Not Wearing Not Just Pretty

Filed under: Lagerfeld, fashion, organic, video — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , — notjustpretty @ 10:53 pm

Commercials from Change Advertising for Not Just Pretty…..

from Change Advertising :

Not Just Pretty

Not Just Pretty sells high fashion organic clothing. As such, they wanted the message to be fashion first, and sustainable second.

We addressed this with a simple strategy: Nature, as well as other people, will love you if you wear Not Just Pretty. And conversely, Nature will hate you if you don’t.

After that, all the creatives had to do was add a twisted twist, and we had a campaign with a fresh perspective on sustainable fashion.

here’s Bunny Lagerfeld:
